The centrepiece in the Burgomasters’ Council Room is an enormous chandelier, the largest in the palace in terms of weight, height and diameter. This colossal cast brass chandelier weights 710 kilos, is over tree metres high and has a diameter of two and a half metres. The chandelier was banished to storage attics and ‘found’ during the recent restoration.

King Willem III had ordered it for the art gallery at Het Loo Palace. Later it was moved to the former Burgomasters’ Cabinet of the palace in Amsterdam in 1877.

In a way it stands symbol for the fact that the building is now for a longer period in time a Palace then it ever was a townhall.
