Accessibility

Assistance dogs and companions

• Assistance dogs, on a lead and wearing a harness, are welcome in the Palace.
• If you are unable to move through the Palace independently, you may bring one companion free of charge.

Wheelchair facilities

• The Palace has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and an elevator.
• You may borrow a wheelchair or walking stick free of charge. If you would like to do so, please email info@dkh.nl.
• There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet on the ground floor.
• There are no thresholds in the Palace.
• The Palace can also be visited with a mobility scooter.

Rest areas and museum stools

• There are several benches in the Citizens’ Hall where you can sit and rest.
• Lightweight, foldable stools are available for use during your visit.

Audio tour

• A free audio tour is available with information about the history and art of the building. Languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Mandarin.
• The audio tour device also displays the text of the tour (Dutch and English). You can adjust the text size yourself.
• The volume can be adjusted. The audio tour cannot be connected to hearing aids.

Sensory stimuli

• There are no bright lights or loud sounds in the Palace, and there is no background music.
• Some rooms are darker than others.
• The Palace can be busy at times. You can avoid crowds by visiting at quieter moments, such as before 11:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m. Weekdays and periods outside school holidays are generally quieter.

Accessibility and entrance

• The entrance to the Palace is on Dam Square, on the right-hand side of the main façade.
• The entrance is accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters via a sloping ramp.

Public transport

The Palace is easily accessible by public transport. From Amsterdam Central Station, take a tram or metro.

• The tram stops at the rear and side of the building are most accessible for visitors with visual impairments (lines 2, 12, 13, 17 and 24).
• The tram stop at the front of the building is more accessible for wheelchair users (lines 4 and 14).
• Rokin metro station (North/South line) is approximately 150 metres from the Palace (Dam exit).

Parking

• A general disabled parking space is located on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, near number 140.
• The nearest parking garages are Q-Park de Bijenkorf (Beursplein 15) and ParkBee Krasnapolsky (Sint Jansstraat 13), both almost directly on Dam Square. These garages do not have designated disabled parking spaces. ParkBee Krasnapolsky is not wheelchair accessible.
• Q-Park Nieuwendijk (Nieuwezijds Kolk 18) has four designated disabled parking spaces and is 500 metres from the Palace. Rokin Parking Garage (Rokin 55) is 150 metres from the Palace and is wheelchair accessible.
