Come and draw!
There is so much to discover in the Palace’s sculptures of Artus Quellinus. That’s why this October, you’re invited to come and draw at the Palace. It’s a fun activity for all ages – whether you’re visiting with colleagues, on a date or during the autumn school holidays.
Pick up a complimentary Drawing Guide and pencils from the audio desk, subject to availability. Creative drawing prompts encourage everyone – from curious beginners to experienced artists – to look closely and see the Palace’s sculptures from a different perspective. Because you really do see more with a pencil in your hand: skin, scales, hair, different materials, movement, depth – and much more.
A drawing coach will be on hand on Saturdays and Sundays and every day during the autumn school holidays. With guidance from the coach, you’ll explore the details, train your eye and hand, and discover how drawing can change the way you look – while making the experience even more enjoyable. Everyone is welcome!

Be inspired by the sculptures of Artus Quellinus (1609–1668), one of the leading sculptors of the seventeenth century. From 1650 to 1665, he and his workshop created the sculptural decorations for Amsterdam’s Town Hall, now the Royal Palace Amsterdam.
Quellinus created iconic works including Atlas, imposing statues of gods, richly decorated festoons and the dramatic reliefs in the Tribunal. With his remarkable eye for anatomy, detail, emotion and movement, he brought the marble to life.
