Filming and Photography

We therefore welcome visitors, content creators and production companies sharing their knowledge, experiences and stories about the Royal Palace Amsterdam with others. Filming and photography are permitted in many cases while the Palace is open to the public. This page sets out the conditions that apply to each type of visit.

I am visiting the Palace

You may take photographs and record short videos using a mobile phone or small handheld camera to capture and share your visit and experience.

Conditions

• Switch off your flash.
• Be considerate of other visitors.
• Do not photograph or film identifiable visitors or members of staff without their permission.
• Always follow instructions given by Palace staff.
• Treat the building, its interiors and collection with respect.

Not permitted

• Tripods, selfie sticks, gimbals or additional lighting.
• Drones.
• Commercial filming or photography without prior permission.
• Wedding photography or wedding photo shoots.
• Staged scenes.

Please note: Royal Palace Amsterdam staff reserve the right to temporarily restrict filming or photography in specific areas or circumstances, for example around vulnerable objects, during busy periods or in other special circumstances.

I am a content creator

The Royal Palace Amsterdam welcomes content creators who would like to share their visit and experiences. We appreciate creators sharing their visit and introducing new audiences to the Palace’s art, architecture, history and stories.

Would you like to create content for social media or other online channels? Please submit a brief request in advance so that we can plan your visit.

How to apply

• Email info@dkh.nl. We will assess whether the proposed content is appropriate to the character and function of the Palace.

I am making a professional production

We welcome opportunities to collaborate on film and photography productions that reflect the history, significance and present-day function of the building.

Professional filming and photography are only possible with prior permission from the Royal Palace Amsterdam, the Royal Household of the Netherlands (Dienst van het Koninklijk Huis) and the Government Information Service (Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst)

Guidelines

• Productions should preferably have a cultural, art-historical, educational or journalistic purpose.
• Filming should have a clear connection to the Palace’s function, history, architecture, collection or programme.
• The Palace is not available simply as a filming location or backdrop, or for commercial film productions, advertising, product promotion or other commercial purposes.
• The resulting images and footage must present the building in a respectful manner.
• Filming or photography must not interfere with public access, security or the collection.
• Permission to film or photograph is always subject to the content, context and purpose of the production.

• Please allow a minimum of two to three weeks for your application to be reviewed.
